Sharing a join link so players can sign up

Publish a link and QR code so players can apply to your roster, then approve or decline each request.

Overview

Normally you add players by inviting them one at a time — you type an email, they get an invitation, they accept. That works when you already know who's joining.

A join link flips it around. You publish one link, share it wherever your players already are, and they apply to you. Nothing happens to your roster until you approve a request, so opening the link up doesn't mean losing control of who's on the team.

It's the fastest way to handle a tryout, an open gym, or a "we need two more players" post — you stop collecting email addresses by hand.

Turning it on

There are two switches, and you need both. The public team page is what creates your team's web address; join requests is what opens applications on it.

  1. Go to your team and click Settings.
  2. Open the Public page tab.
  3. If your page isn't live yet, click Enable public page. Your team gets a public address like statscentral.ph/teams/thunder-hawks.
  4. In the Join requests section, click Accept join requests.

The Share join link section appears once both are on.

If you try to accept join requests before enabling the public page, you'll be told to enable the page first — the join form lives on that page, so there's nowhere to put it otherwise.

Sharing the link

The Share join link section gives you two ways to hand the link out:

  • Copy link — copies your join URL (.../teams/your-team/join) to the clipboard. Paste it into a group chat, a bio, or an event post.
  • Download QR code — downloads a PNG. Put it on a poster, a flyer, or a slide at a tryout. Anyone who scans it lands straight on your join form.

Your public team page also gets a Request to join this team button, so anyone who finds your team page can apply without you sending them anything.

What the player fills in

The join form asks for name and email, plus optional details that help you build the roster: position, preferred jersey number, jersey size, date of birth, and phone number.

A parent or guardian can apply on behalf of a child by ticking I'm signing up a player under 18. The form then asks for the child's name, and the email stays the guardian's — every message about that player goes to the parent, not the child.

Players don't need a StatsCentral account to apply. If they already have one, they can sign in first and the form fills itself in.

Approving or declining

When someone applies, two emails go out: a confirmation to the applicant, and a notification to you.

You can review a request in either place:

Where How
Your email The notification has a Review Request button. It works without logging in, expires after 48 hours, and can only be used once.
Team OS A Join Requests section appears at the top of your roster. View all opens the full list with All / Pending / Approved / Declined tabs.

Approving sends the player a normal roster invitation. They still have to open it and accept the terms before they appear on your roster — approving doesn't add anyone by itself. That's deliberate: everyone on your roster has agreed to the terms and set up their own account.

Declining emails the applicant. You can add an optional reason, which is included in that email. Declined applicants are free to apply again later.

Edge cases and gotchas

  • Closing join requests doesn't cancel anything. Turn the toggle off and new applications are turned away, but requests already waiting stay reviewable in Team OS. Approve or decline them as normal.
  • Turning off the public page also closes join requests. The join form lives on the public page, so it can't stay open without it.
  • The emailed review link is single use and expires in 48 hours. If it stops working, review the request from your roster instead — nothing is lost.
  • A jersey number clash blocks approval. If someone applied for #7 and an active player has taken it since, approval fails and the request stays pending. Free up the number or change the player's number, then approve again.
  • Someone applied who's already on your roster? Approving simply closes the request. No duplicate invitation is sent.
  • Duplicate applications are blocked. The same email can't have two requests waiting for the same team at once.
  • Getting spam? Turn Close join requests off in Settings. Your public team page stays live; only the application form closes.

Once players start joining this way, record their jersey sizes on the roster so your league can order kit in one go.
