Paref Springdale Pulls Away from Hoopsters TC for Convincing 72-43 Victory
CEBU - Paref Springdale had to absorb an early challenge from Hoopsters TC before taking control of the game and turning a close opening quarter into a convincing 72-43 victory in the Jr Metro Cebu Basketball League.
Hoopsters showed early that they weren't going to make things easy for Springdale. They edged ahead 15-14 after the first quarter, putting Springdale in the unfamiliar position of having to chase the game after the opening period. But instead of allowing the early deficit to disrupt their rhythm, Springdale responded with a much stronger second quarter and gradually imposed their style on the contest.
Springdale Responds in the Second
The momentum began to shift in the second quarter as Springdale found its offensive rhythm and started converting its opportunities at a much higher rate. After being held to 14 points in the opening period, Springdale erupted for 21 points in the second quarter while limiting Hoopsters to 11.
That turnaround transformed a one-point deficit into a 35-26 halftime advantage. More importantly, Springdale had begun to establish control of the game, finding high-percentage opportunities inside and forcing Hoopsters to work considerably harder for its points.
The pattern continued after halftime. Springdale added another 18 points in the third quarter compared with Hoopsters' 13, stretching the advantage to 14 points heading into the final period. Hoopsters continued competing, but every attempt to cut into the deficit was met by another Springdale response.
Lopez Takes Charge
Leading Springdale's offensive attack was Pax Kody Lopez, who delivered the game's standout scoring performance with 31 points. Lopez was remarkably efficient, converting 15 of his 20 field-goal attempts while also collecting 10 rebounds.
Most of his damage came inside the arc, where he shot 14-for-19 on two-point attempts. He also knocked down his only three-point attempt, giving Springdale a reliable scoring option throughout the game and helping his team steadily build separation from Hoopsters.
Lopez wasn't alone in carrying the offensive load. Keenan Bautista produced an impressive all-around performance of his own, finishing with 20 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 7-for-10 from the field. Bautista also contributed an assist and two steals, giving Springdale another productive presence on both ends of the floor.
William Edward Mellana added 11 points on an efficient 5-for-6 shooting performance, while John Gamallo contributed eight points. With Lopez and Bautista leading the way and other players providing timely scoring, Springdale was able to maintain its offensive efficiency as the game progressed.
Hoopsters Battles Behind Banog
Despite the defeat, Hoopsters TC had a strong individual performance from Jeryl Banog Banog, who carried much of the team's scoring load. Banog finished with 24 points on 11-for-19 shooting, accounting for more than half of Hoopsters' total offensive production.
The problem for Hoopsters was finding enough scoring support around him. Emmanuel Cuyos contributed six points, while JM Liwag and Jayden Delima scored four apiece, but Springdale's defense prevented Hoopsters from developing the balanced attack needed to keep pace.
Hoopsters actually generated more offensive rebounds, collecting 14 compared with Springdale's six, giving them additional possessions and second-chance opportunities. However, those extra chances weren't enough to overcome the difference in shooting efficiency between the two teams.
Springdale's Efficiency Makes the Difference
The shooting numbers ultimately tell much of the story. Springdale converted 32 of 45 field-goal attempts for 71 percent, while Hoopsters finished 20-for-58 for 34 percent from the floor.
Springdale was particularly effective around the basket, making 30 of 41 two-point attempts and finishing with 58 points in the paint. Hoopsters also attacked the interior and scored 38 points in the paint, but Springdale's ability to consistently finish those opportunities created a gap that became increasingly difficult to overcome.
Springdale also controlled the defensive glass, collecting 27 defensive rebounds and 33 rebounds overall. That helped limit Hoopsters' opportunities after missed shots and allowed Springdale to get back into its offense without repeatedly giving away extra possessions.
Fourth Quarter Seals It
Any hopes of a Hoopsters comeback disappeared in the final period.
After entering the fourth quarter with a 14-point advantage, Springdale delivered its strongest defensive stretch of the game. They held Hoopsters to only four points in the fourth quarter while scoring 19 of their own, turning what had still been a competitive game into a comfortable victory.
The final-quarter performance completed an impressive turnaround from Springdale's slow start. After trailing 15-14 through the opening period, Springdale outscored Hoopsters 58-28 over the remaining three quarters, including the decisive 19-4 closing period.
By the final buzzer, Springdale had transformed an early challenge into a 29-point victory, 72-43.
For Hoopsters TC, Banog's 24-point effort and the team's work on the offensive glass provided positives to build on, but improving their shooting efficiency will be crucial as the competition continues.
For Paref Springdale, the victory showed an ability to adjust after a difficult opening quarter. Lopez's 31-point performance provided the offensive firepower, Bautista delivered a strong double-double, and Springdale's efficiency around the basket eventually proved too much for Hoopsters to contain.
Springdale didn't dominate from the opening tip. They had to respond after falling behind early, find their rhythm and gradually take control. Once they did, however, there was little Hoopsters could do to stop them.
